Balkans and Anatolia (14th – mid-15th c.)

The Balkans and Asia Minor from 1301 to the middle of the 15th century: the growth of Osman’s small principality in Bithynia into the Ottoman state, the civil wars and the hesychast controversy of late Byzantium, the Serbian empire of Stefan Dušan and his law code, the Black Death in Constantinople, the Ottoman crossing into Europe at Gallipoli and the battles of Kosovo and Nicopolis, after which most of the peninsula was under Ottoman rule or overlordship — the long prelude to the fall of Constantinople.
