al-Adid
Abu Muhammad Abdallah al-Adid li-Din Allah, the fourteenth and last Fatimid caliph (1160–1171) and imam of the Hafizi Ismailis. Raised to the throne at nine, he remained a figurehead in the hands of rival viziers — Ibn Ruzzik, Shawar, Dirgham, then Shirkuh and Saladin — while the crusaders and Nur ad-Din fought over Egypt. Saladin gradually dismantled his regime, and the caliph died, aged twenty, in September 1171, in the days when the Abbasid caliph was proclaimed in Cairo.
