Muhammad ibn Ibrahim al-Fazari
Astronomer and astrologer at the Abbasid court, from an old Arab family of Kufa. He helped to choose the date for the founding of Baghdad in 762, worked in the early 770s on the Arabic version of a Sanskrit astronomical treatise and based on it his Zij al-Sindhind al-kabir; in another work he called Ghana ‘the land of gold’. Medieval biographers sometimes made him into two people, father and son. His works survive only in quotations.
