Abd al-Rahman al-Sufi
Abd al-Rahman ibn Umar al-Sufi, Persian astronomer from Rayy who wrote in Arabic, known in Latin Europe as Azophi. Closely attached to the Buyid rulers, especially Adud al-Dawla, he is best known for his Book of the Constellations of the Fixed Stars (964), which combined Ptolemy's star catalogue with Arabic star lore and his own observations; he also wrote on the astrolabe and the celestial globe.
