Buyids
Shi'a dynasty of Daylamite origin that ruled western Iran and Iraq from 934 to 1062. In 945 the Buyid Ahmad (Mu'izz al-Dawla) took Baghdad, leaving the Abbasid caliphs only a religious role; the Buyids revived Sasanian titles such as shahanshah.
