Ali ibn Abi Talib
Cousin and son-in-law of Muhammad, husband of his daughter Fatima, and the fourth caliph (656–661). His caliphate was consumed by the First Fitna, and he was assassinated by a Kharijite in the great mosque of Kufa. Shia Muslims regard him as the first imam and Muhammad’s rightful successor.
