Rashtrakutas
Dynasty of the Deccan that rose to imperial power when Dantidurga overthrew the Chalukyas of Badami in the 750s; from the 9th century its capital was Manyakheta. Its kings fought the Palas and the Pratiharas for Kannauj and created the Kailasa temple at Ellora. After the sack of Manyakheta in 972 their feudatory Tailapa II made himself independent, and the last Rashtrakuta, Indra IV, died in 982.
