Aterui
Chief of the Emishi of the Isawa region on the middle Kitakami River in northern Honshu. The chronicles first mention him in 789, when an imperial army advancing towards his dwelling was routed at Subuse. In 802 he surrendered to Sakanoue no Tamuramaro together with More and more than 500 of their people, and was beheaded in Kawachi province, although Tamuramaro had asked that he be sent home.
