Badr al-Jamali
Fatimid commander and vizier of Armenian origin, brought up as a military slave by the ruler of Tripoli, Jamal al-Dawla ibn Ammar. Governor of Damascus in the 1060s and then master of Acre, he was called to Egypt by al-Mustansir in 1073, seized power in Cairo in January 1074 and ruled as vizier with full powers until his death, restoring order and rebuilding the walls of Cairo in stone.
