Bukka Raya I
King of Vijayanagara (1356–1377), the younger brother and co-ruler of Harihara I, with whom he founded the kingdom; inscriptions show him as co-regent by 1344, and some of them credit him with building the city of Vijayanagara. In his reign his son Kumara Kampana conquered the sultanate of Madurai, the long wars with the Bahmani Sultanate began, and Vijayanagara extended its rule over most of the south.
