Chalukyas of Badami
Dynasty of the western Deccan with its capital at Vatapi (Badami), founded by Pulakeshin I in the 540s. Under Kirtivarman I and Pulakeshin II it came to rule most of the Deccan, and its cave and stone temples at Badami, Aihole and Pattadakal are landmarks of early Indian temple architecture. In 753 the Rashtrakuta king Dantidurga overthrew the last of its kings, Kirtivarman II.
