Emperor Wu of Liang
Xiao Yan, founding emperor of the Liang (reigned 502–549). A patron of Confucian learning and a devout Buddhist, called the Bodhisattva Emperor; his long and prosperous reign ended in the rebellion of Hou Jing, who took the capital, and he died in 549 in the rebel’s power.
