Ibn Tumart
Muhammad ibn Tumart, Berber religious scholar of the Hargha tribe of the Masmuda from the Sous, founder of the Almohad movement. After studies in Córdoba and the East he preached the absolute unity of God (tawhid) against the Almoravids and their Maliki jurists, was recognised by his followers as the Mahdi in 1121 and organised them in the mountain stronghold of Tinmel, where he was buried after his death in 1130.
