Zenata Berber of the Kumiya tribe from near Tlemcen, a disciple of Ibn Tumart and, from about 1133, the first Almohad caliph. He conquered Morocco and took Marrakesh from the Almoravids in 1147, extended Almohad rule to al-Andalus and, by 1160, along the whole coast of the Maghreb to Tripoli, and made his own family, the Mu'minids, the ruling dynasty.
