Ismail Samani
Abu Ibrahim Ismail ibn Ahmad, Samanid amir of Transoxiana from 892 and of Khurasan from 900 until his death in 907. Sent by his brother Nasr to govern Bukhara, he defeated him in 888 but left him the title until Nasr died; as ruler he made Bukhara his capital, campaigned into the steppe and took Talas (893), and in 900 defeated and captured the Saffarid Amr ibn al-Layth. He was buried in the Samanid Mausoleum in Bukhara.
