Kan'ami
Japanese sarugaku actor, playwright and musician (1333–1384), founder of the Kanze school and father of Zeami. A member of the Yūzaki troupe of Yamato, which served the Kōfuku-ji temple and the Kasuga shrine, he brought his own company to Kyoto in the 1370s, enriched sarugaku with the rhythmic kusemai song and dance and with elements of dengaku, and won the patronage of the shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu; plays such as Jinen Koji are attributed to him.
