Kavad I
Sasanian king of kings from 488 to 531, with an interruption in 496–498/499. He used the preacher Mazdak to weaken the nobility and the clergy, was deposed, fled to the Hephthalites and regained the throne with their army; his reforms were completed by his son Khosrow I.
