Michael I Cerularius
Patriarch of Constantinople from 1043, whose clash with the legates of Leo IX ended in the mutual excommunications of July 1054. He helped Isaac I Komnenos to the throne in 1057, then quarrelled with him, was arrested in November 1058 and died in exile in January 1059 before a synod could depose him.
