Mihirakula
Son of Toramana and king of the Alchon Huns from about 515, ruling from Sakala (Sialkot) in the Punjab; his power reached as far as Gwalior in central India. Defeated around 530 by the Aulikara king Yashodharman — and, according to Xuanzang, by Baladitya, king of Magadha — he withdrew to Kashmir. Buddhist tradition remembers him as a cruel persecutor of Buddhism, while his own inscription presents him as a devotee of Shiva.
