Oghuz Turks

Turkic tribal confederation of the steppes north and east of the Caspian, called the Ghuzz by Muslim writers and the Torks by the Rus’. The Seljuks rose from among them; in the 12th century Oghuz tribes living as subjects of the Seljuks near Balkh revolted in 1153 and took Sultan Sanjar prisoner.
