Seljuk Empire
Turco-Persian empire of the Oghuz Turks, founded in 1037 by the brothers Tughril and Chaghri. The Seljuks took Khorasan from the Ghaznavids (Dandanaqan, 1040) and Baghdad from the Buyids (1055), and defeated Byzantium at Manzikert (1071); their rule outside Anatolia ended in 1194.
