Orhan
Second ruler of the Ottoman beylik (1323/24–1362), the son of Osman I. He took Bursa (1326), which became the first Ottoman capital, Nicaea (1331) and Nicomedia (1337), annexed the neighbouring beylik of Karasi and, as the ally of John VI Kantakouzenos, whose daughter Theodora he married in 1346, led the Ottomans into Europe; his son Süleyman Pasha occupied Gallipoli in 1354.
