Person802–838
Ralpachen (Tritsuk Detsen)
Khri gtsug lde btsan, king of Tibet from 815 to 838, known as Ralpachen, “the one with long braids”, and honoured by tradition as the third of Tibet’s Dharma kings. A generous patron of Buddhism and of translation from Sanskrit, he concluded the treaty of 821–822 with the Tang. The Chinese histories say that he was long ill and left affairs to his ministers; Tibetan tradition holds that ministers hostile to Buddhism murdered him and raised his brother Darma (Langdarma) to the throne.
