Rudaki
Abu Abd Allah Ja'far ibn Muhammad Rudaki, poet, singer and musician, regarded as the first major poet of New Persian. Born at Panjrud near Samarkand, he spent the most important part of his career at the Samanid court in Bukhara under Nasr II and his vizier Bal'ami, and at Nasr's order the blind poet put the fables of Kalila and Dimna into Persian verse. He is said to have composed more than 180,000 verses, of which only a small part survives; after his patron's fall he was dismissed from the court and died poor in his native village.
