Shemon bar Sabbae
Bishop of Seleucia-Ctesiphon and de facto head of the Church of the East, who refused to collect the double tax that Shapur II imposed on the Christians and was executed with many of his clergy; from his death Christian chronicles count some forty years of persecution, down to Shapur’s death.
