Shapur II
Sasanian king of kings from his birth in 309 to his death in 379, the longest reign in Sasanian history. He fought Rome for decades, took Amida in 359 and in 363, after Julian’s death, recovered Nisibis and the provinces beyond the Tigris; he persecuted Christians.
