Person
Skandagupta
Gupta emperor from c. 455 to c. 467, a son of Kumaragupta I whose inscriptions, unusually, do not name his mother; his accession seems to have been contested. His Bhitari pillar inscription says that he restored the fallen fortunes of his family and fought the Hunas. He is generally regarded as the last of the great Gupta emperors and was most probably succeeded by his half-brother Purugupta.
