Stefan Dušan
King (1331–1346) and emperor (1346–1355) of Serbia, of the Nemanjić dynasty, called Dušan the Mighty. Exploiting the Byzantine civil wars, he conquered Albania, most of Macedonia, Epirus and Thessaly; at Easter 1346 in Skopje, after raising the Serbian Church to a patriarchate, he was crowned “Emperor of the Serbs and Romans”, and in 1349 he issued his law code. His empire broke up soon after his death in December 1355.
