Person
Tailapa II
Founder of the Western Chalukya empire (reigned 973–997), also called Taila II and Ahavamalla. A feudatory of the Rashtrakutas holding the province of Tardavadi, he overthrew their king Karka II in 973 and claimed descent from the Chalukyas of Badami. Ruling from Manyakheta, he fought the Paramaras of Malwa — he captured their king Munja and put him to death — and the Cholas, and was succeeded by his son Satyashraya.
