People / group
Toltecs
The people of Tula in central Mexico, whose culture flourished in the 10th–12th centuries. Later Nahua tradition made the Toltecs the founders of all arts — Toltecatl came to mean ‘master craftsman’ — and many ruling houses claimed Toltec descent; how much history the Aztec accounts preserve is disputed.
