Tula (Tollan)
City in the Tula valley in present-day Hidalgo, Mexico, the capital of the Toltecs. A smaller town (Tula Chico) from about 650, it was refounded as Tula Grande around 900 and until about 1150 was the leading city of central Mexico, the seat of a regional state; the Aztecs revered it as Tollan, the model of civilization.
