Turxanthus (Türk Shad)

Turkic prince, son of Istämi (Dizabul) and brother of Tardu, who in the 570s governed the westernmost lands of the Turkic Khaganate; Turxanthus is the Byzantine rendering of his title Türk Shad. In 576 he harangued the Byzantine envoy Valentinus over the empire’s treaty with the Avars and sent an army that took the Byzantine city of Bosporus in the Crimea.
