A Mongol corps under Baidar routed the Polish and German army of Duke Henry the Pious of Silesia, who was killed in the battle.

The corps operated on the northern flank of the campaign and kept Poland and its allies from coming to the aid of Hungary, where Batu’s main forces were heading. Two days after Legnica, on 11 April 1241, the Mongols also defeated the Hungarian army at Mohi.
