Yaroslav II receives a yarlyk from Batu
Grand Prince Yaroslav II of Vladimir was the first of the Russian princes to present himself at Batu’s camp, where he was granted “seniority” over the Russian princes — the beginning of the dependence of Rus’ on the Horde.

On returning from the western campaign, Batu summoned the three most powerful princes — Yaroslav, Michael of Chernihiv and Daniel of Galicia; only Yaroslav came. His son Konstantin was sent on to Karakorum. From then on Russian princes received the right to rule from the khans.
