Abu Hanifa
Al-Nu'man ibn Thabit, known as Abu Hanifa, jurist and theologian of Kufa and eponym of the Hanafi school, today the most widely followed school of Sunni law. He is regarded as the first to make analogy a formal tool of Islamic law; he refused judicial office under both the Umayyads and the Abbasids and died in prison in Baghdad.
