Malik ibn Anas
Jurist and hadith scholar of Medina, called in his lifetime the ‘Imam of Medina’. His al-Muwatta is one of the earliest surviving works of Islamic law, and the Maliki school named after him became dominant in North and West Africa and in al-Andalus. Among his pupils was al-Shafi'i.
