Al-Farabi
Abu Nasr Muhammad al-Farabi, philosopher and music theorist whose name points to Central Asia — to Farab on the Syr Darya or Faryab in Khorasan — and whom later writers called ‘the Second Teacher’ after Aristotle. He studied and taught for most of his life in Baghdad among Christian Aristotelians, moved to Syria in 942, where his stay was somehow connected with Sayf al-Dawla, and died in Damascus in 950/951; his works on logic, music and the ideal state shaped Islamic philosophy from Avicenna to Averroes.
