Ikhshidids
Dynasty founded by Muhammad ibn Tughj, a Turkish commander who made himself master of Egypt in 935 and obtained from the caliph the old Central Asian princely title al-Ikhshid. Nominally Abbasid governors, he and his heirs ruled Egypt and southern Syria virtually independently; from 946 real power lay with the black eunuch Abu al-Misk Kafur, after whose death in 968 the regime collapsed before the Fatimid conquest of 969.
