Alfonso VI of León and Castile
King of León from 1065, of Galicia from 1071 and of Castile from 1072, who from 1077 styled himself emperor of all Spain. He made most of the taifa kingdoms his tributaries and took Toledo in 1085, but from 1086 had to fight the Almoravids, who defeated him at Sagrajas; he died in Toledo.
