Alp Arslan

Nephew of Tughril and second sultan of the Seljuk Empire (1063–1072). He took Ani (1064), defeated and captured Emperor Romanos IV Diogenes at Manzikert (1071) and had Nizam al-Mulk as his vizier; he was stabbed by a captive fortress commander during a campaign in Transoxiana and died of the wound in 1072.
