Buluggin ibn Ziri

Abu al-Futuh Buluggin ibn Ziri of the Sanhaja, son of Ziri ibn Manad, founder of Algiers, Médéa and Miliana and the first Zirid ruler (972–984). When the Fatimid caliph al-Mu'izz left for Egypt he made Buluggin his viceroy in Ifriqiya; Buluggin fought the Zenata Berbers, allies of Córdoba, around 980 briefly brought Fez and most of the western Maghreb under his rule, and founded the dynasty that ruled Ifriqiya until 1148.
