Chagatai Khanate
Mongol khanate of Chagatai, second son of Genghis Khan, and his successors, which became effectively separate after 1259 and at its height stretched from the Amu Darya to the Altai. Its rulers gradually turned Turkic and Muslim; from 1363 they progressively lost Transoxiana to the Timurids, and the eastern remnant was known as Moghulistan.
