Moghulistan
Khanate of the eastern, nomadic part of the Chagatai ulus — the steppes of the Ili valley, Semirechye and the Tian Shan with the oases of the Tarim basin — which broke away in 1347 under Tughlugh Timur. Its Persian name means 'land of the Moghuls', that is, of the Mongols; real power often lay with the amirs of the Dughlat clan, and the khans, converted to Islam in the 14th century, fought long wars with Timur and his successors.
