Emperor Taiwu of Northern Wei
Tuoba Tao, third emperor of the Northern Wei. He united northern China in 439, fought the Rouran and the Liu Song and, under Taoist influence, ordered the suppression of Buddhism in 444–446; in 452 he was murdered by a eunuch.
