Eulji Mundeok
Goguryeo commander who in 612 wore down and routed the Sui army sent against Pyongyang, culminating in the battle of the Salsu. Known only from the Chinese histories and the Samguk sagi, which preserve his mocking poem to the Sui general Yu Zhongwen, he became one of Korea’s national heroes.
