Sui dynasty
Chinese dynasty founded by Yang Jian (Emperor Wen) that reunified China in 589 after nearly three centuries of division. It rebuilt the empire’s institutions and dug the Grand Canal, but collapsed under Emperor Yang and gave way to the Tang in 618.
