Emperor Yang of Sui
Yang Guang, second son of Emperor Wen of Sui, commander-in-chief of the conquest of the Chen (589), crown prince from 600 and emperor from 604. He built the Eastern Capital at Luoyang and the Grand Canal and launched three costly invasions of Goguryeo (612–614); as rebellion spread he withdrew to Jiangdu, where he was killed in a mutiny led by Yuwen Huaji in 618.
