Gurjara-Pratiharas
Dynasty of northern India founded by Nagabhata I around 730, centred first on Ujjain — or, according to Dasharatha Sharma and others, on Jalor and Bhinmal — and later on Kannauj. Its kings held back the Arabs of Sind, fought the Palas and the Rashtrakutas for Kannauj and in the 9th century ruled from the borders of Sind to Bengal; after Mahmud of Ghazni took Kannauj in 1018 the dynasty dwindled and ended around 1036.
