House of Lancaster
English royal dynasty, a branch of the Plantagenets whose emblem was the red rose. The first line descended from Edmund Crouchback, created Earl of Lancaster in 1267; the Lancastrians were kings of England in 1399–1461 and 1470–1471. The line died out in 1471 with the deaths of Henry VI and his son.
