Ilterish Qaghan (Qutlugh)
Ashina Qutlugh (Gudulu in the Chinese histories), a kinsman of Illig Qaghan — a distant one according to the Old Book of Tang, his grandson according to some modern accounts — who in 682 led the Turks in revolt against the Tang and founded the Second Turkic Khaganate. With his counsellor Tonyukuk he defeated the Toquz Oghuz and took Ötüken; the inscription of his son Kül Tegin credits him with forty-seven campaigns. He died in 691 by the reckoning of the inscriptions, about 693 by the Chinese histories.
